Jack Boss isn’t my real name, but it’s close. Boss is my mother’s maiden name. I don’t think of myself as Jack Boss, though. My real name is more foreign sounding, more Jewish. It has many more syllables, is hard to pronounce and harder to spell. At award ceremonies, I know I’ve won by the perplexed look on the MC’s face and their puzzled, slightly accusatory tone of voice as they struggle to link one sound to the next.
Jack Boss perplexes no one. No one’s tongue trips over these two syllables.
My mother’s family history is a bit sketchy, but hers is a family of doers. They have nerve, and claiming my inner Boss, while I worry about coming off as brash and arrogant, is part of what this blog is about. It’s about being unapologetic, leaving off the disclaimers and asserting my opinions. So, meet Jack Boss. This is what he thinks.
